Art in phone booths

The telephone booths are useless and disappeared in several countries. However in Brazil, where a lot of people have no money for the mobiles, the public telephones are still needed.

Based on a creative initiative that mixed art and communication, a Brazilian telecommunication company has invited several artists to express their art in 100  phone booths spread out in the city.

The project named "Call Parade" was quite successful by involving the population and educating people to respect and take care of the devices. After that the phone booths stopped to be vandalized and destroyed as well as the city got new colours and fun.

Here are some of the art work still in exhibition at Paulista Avenue.

Farmers market or "Feira livre"

It does not matter where you live in São Paulo city. Certainly there should exist a "Feira livre" close to your neighborhood some day in the week. This kind of farmers market is traditional in Brazil. Some historians considered they were introduced by the Portuguese colonizers.

Composed by several colourful tends, this kind of market is part of the daily life of the locals that love to buy fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, spices, flowers, fresh meat, like chicken and fish, and a wide range of dairy products and sweets.

Close to midday it is quite difficult to resist to the shouting of the traders that strive to to convince you to buy the final bargains with better prices than the groceries.
